“But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4)
God designed us not to live by bread alone but by His Word. Bread is meant to satisfy our physical needs, while the Word on the other hand is meant to satisfy our spiritual needs. It is fallacious to think that our existence on earth is only physical. We are not sustained by physical means alone but by spiritual stuff too. If you look at your existence from the physical perspective you will miss out on what God has ordained for you in this world. Yes, we all have physical needs but we must not denigrate our spiritual needs. Jesus Christ fasted for 40 days and required physical food. Satan thought he could use the need for food to tempt Him. People who live their lives based on their desire to satisfy their physical needs alone will always be tempted and defeated by the devil. You are not just physical but spiritual. Your spiritual needs are equally important as your physical needs. Let’s consider 3 things the Word will do for us:
1. The Word will sanctify us.
We are living in a world full of impurities! How can we stay on the path of purity? It’s only by living according to God’s Word. The Bible says, “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to thy word.” (Psalm 119:9)
The truth is that no physical means can cleanse us from our sins and iniquities. We are made clean as we camp around the Word every day. Jesus said, “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.” Allow Jesus to speak to you daily through Bible study. Don’t forget it is God’s will that you are sanctified! The Bible says, “For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication. ” (1Thess 4:3)
2. The Word will uphold us.
If we live by the Word of God, we shall be upheld 24/7! The Bible says, “… and upholding all things by the word of his power…” (Heb 1:3)
No physical stuff can uphold you in this unstable and shaky world. Things are falling apart daily, as such, we need His Word as an anchor for our souls. When the seas or storms of life get so ferocious and boisterous, we sure need His Word. David said, “Uphold me according to unto thy word, that I may live: and let me not be ashamed of my hope.” (Psalm 119:116)
3. The Word will frame our world.
Just as God used His Word to frame this world, we too can use His Word to frame our world. The Bible says, “Through faith, we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”
(Heb 11:3)
When we live by the Word of God, we can use the Word to the frame or create what we want. God wanted light, animals, vegetation and human beings, He went ahead to create them exactly the way He wanted. What do you want? Go into the Word of God and pull out a verse or two to frame your world right now! Tell God you are believing and standing on His Word for your needs and wants to be met. The Word of God is replete with solutions and answers to life challenges. With faith in your heart, boldly speak into the atmosphere or speak directly to the need, issue or challenge and God will arise to honour His Word with answers and solutions!
I decree and declare that by the Word of God you will have assorted testimonies in Jesus’ mighty name!
Yours sincerely
