“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”
John 15:5
No branch can bear fruit all by itself!
So also none of us can amount to anything outside of Christ! Jesus Christ, Himself said in the passage under review, “… without me ye can do nothing.” It is pertinent to know that the key to our fruitfulness is all about our intimacy with Christ. We open the door to fruitfulness when we are joined with Christ intimately and organically.
The word “abide” means to “live or dwell” Abiding in Christ is “living or dwelling in Christ” It means making Christ our home of residence where we remain or stay permanently. It is about having a habit of constant close communion with Him!
How do we engage the key?
- By allowing His Word to dwell in us!
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom…”
Colossians 3:16
We engage the key to fruitfulness by allowing His word to dwell in us richly. And we do this by reading and hearing the Word of God constantly.
We must try by all means to memorise or internalise His sayings and precepts continually in our hearts. - By loving Him sincerely!
“So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.”
John 21:15
We can only bear much fruit through love. Any fruit we bear without love is useless! Hence, Jesus Christ wanted to be sure of Peter’s love for Him.
Our intimacy with Christ should be on the platform of sincere love for Him. - By doing His Word!
“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”
James 1:22
By engaging or doing His word practically, we validate our attachment to Him. It is not enough to have His words stored in our hearts! Except His words guide our actions, we cannot claim to dwell in Christ. His words should define our daily conduct and behaviour. Our actions should line up with His teachings and commands. We deceive ourselves if we only hear His words but without corresponding action. Doing His words is validation or proof that we are abiding in Him.
I decree and declare that you will command fruitfulness beyond your wildest imagination in Jesus’ mighty name!
Yours sincerely,
Joe Jesimiel Ogbe
