“For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.”
Isaiah 53:2

The Messiah was designed to “grow up before Him as a tender plant.” The Messiah, our Lord Jesus Christ was not like Adam who was made a full grown adult; but He was born as a baby and He passed through the due process of growth like any normal baby. One of the dearest desires of God for us is that we may experience growth like His Son. Growth is about increase! The Bible says, “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.”
Luke 2:52

God wants us to grow up from one stage to another! He wants us to grow up physically, mentally, spiritually and socially. He does not want us to be stunted! God remains our true Source of growth. The Bible says, “And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight…”
Genesis 2:9

The One who made trees to grow can make us to experience progress. Growth is about progress, and progress is about growth. One of the most tragic things in life is for a person to be stunted. To me, if someone lacks vision or desire for impact or progress, that person is already being stunted! If people have no ambition or desire to improve their lives, they are being stunted! If you lack the momentum to move up higher and higher, you are being stunted! A wise man said, “When you stop growing, you start dying,” Don’t stop growing! Keep growing!

God’s plan for the things that He loves is growth, development and progress.
Vital areas of growth:

  1. Growth in Him!
“But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:”
    Ephesians 4:15
Growing up into Him is about becoming more like Him. Jesus Christ, the Head of the church remains our remarkable template of growth in all ramifications. We are to grow up like Him.
  2. Growth in the word!
“As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:”
    1 Peter 2:2
Spiritual growth will only happen when we drink the milk of the word!
If we want progress, we must be prepared and willing to labour in the word of God. Our growth in the word procures growth in all areas of life. We must stop waiting for growth to drop out of the sky on our heads. That will never happen! Growth is not going to fall into our laps! No! Growth is hard work!
  3. Growth in grace!
“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever.”
    2 Peter 3:18
There is a clear instruction to “grow in grace.” How do you feel when you don’t have a feeling of progression? Don’t you feel suffocated and lost? We need grace to make impact! We need grace to keep striving to do better and to be better. We need grace to keep achieving more and to have more, with each passing year. It is grace that makes us righteous before God not our works of righteousness. Do you see yourself as the righteous of God? Then you are made to grow like a cedar in Lebanon! The Bible says, “The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.”
    Psalm 92:12

I decree and declare that you will experience growth in all areas of your life in Jesus mighty name!

Yours sincerely,
Joe Jesimiel Ogbe
