“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”
Proverbs 4:23
This is a profound counsel! A counsel that is laced with profound wisdom. We need to keep or guard our hearts more than anything else. Why? Because everything flows from it! From the heart, we reason! “But there was certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,”
Mark 2:6
From the heart, we think! “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he…”
Proverbs 23:7
And since our thoughts control our life, we must deliberately guard our hearts so that only good and positive things are allowed to be entrenched and enthroned.
Do you know that what you say in your heart matters a great deal to your wellbeing and destiny? The woman with the issue of blood secured her healing via what she said: “within herself”! The Bible says, “And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.”
Matthew 9:20-21
What are you thinking about most often? Do you think defeat or victory; failure or success, smallness or greatness? The candid truth is that you are what you think you are! You are what you say you are in your heart. If you say in your heart, “This enemy is more powerful than me. I cannot defeat him” That will be your portion! And if you say in your heart, “This enemy is a walkover for me. I will defeat him!” That will be your portion! You are the architect of your outcome! Guard your heart!
Let’s consider 3 reasons why we must guard our hearts:
1. Pride
“Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thine heart is lifted, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, amid the seas; yet thou art a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God:”
Ezekiel 28:2
We should never allow pride to gain a foothold in our hearts like the king of Tyre, who was so arrogant that he thought he was God and that the city of Tyre was his throne. He claimed to be God, but he was a mere human.
2. Evil imagination
“And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagines evil against his brother in your heart.”
Zechariah 7:10
We are enjoined not to devise or even imagine evil in our hearts against one another.
3. Evil thinking
“And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?”
Matthew 9:4
The truth is that God knows what we are thinking about. He knows when we are thinking good or evil thoughts.
It is in our good to think good thoughts always!
I decree and declare that your heart will always churn out only that which is good and positive in Jesus’ mighty name.
Yours sincerely
