Lessons from my QuietTime:
Hearing the
“Did ever people hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, and live?”
Deuteronomy 4:33
God spoke to Moses, and Moses heard Him. Moses knew it was God that spoke to him. There was no ambiguity about it at all! Does God still speak to people directly, specifically and personally today as He spoke to Moses? Yes, of course! But today, He speaks to us via His Spirit that indwells us. Remember that the Holy Spirit spoke to Philip to go up and join the Ethiopian eunuch’s chariot. Philip ran up immediately when he heard the Voice of the Spirit. The Bible says, “Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.”
Acts 8:29
His Spirit speaks to us regularly even about the ordinary things of life. The question is that how does the Spirit speak to us? Holy Spirit speaks to us through scriptures! “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”
2 Timothy 3:16
Anytime you pick up your Bible to read or study, the Holy Spirit will speak to you from its pages. Apart from the Bible, the Holy Spirit speaks to you via an inner voice, a nudge, a thought or an impression.
But you must be careful not to fall into the traps of Satan, as he can speak to you through the inner voice too. You can only checkmate him via your spiritual sensitivity. Any thought or impression that does not align with scriptures must be challenged and rejected. Whatever the Spirit says to you must always match the examples or principles which God has packaged and provided for you in the scriptures. The Bible says, “To the law and the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.”
Isaiah 8:20
Let’s consider 3 voices that could trigger your actions:
- The voice of Satan
” And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.”
1 Chronicle 21:1
“If thou, therefore, wilt worship me, all shall be thine. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”
Luke 4:7-8 - The voice of people
“And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.”
1 Samuel 15:24 - Your voice
“And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s to have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,”
Luke 15:17-18
I decree and declare that you will only hear and obey the Voice of God in Jesus’ mighty name.
Yours sincerely,
Joe Jesimiel Ogbe
