“And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great, and thou shalt be a blessing.”
Genesis 12:2
It will require the blessings of God for any of us to be a blessing.
You cannot give what you don’t have.
If you are not endowed with divine blessings you cannot be a blessing. God’s greatest desire is to bless man.
At creation, God blessed and spoke well over Adam and Eve. It is noteworthy that the first time man heard the voice of God was in God blessing him. This sums up the heart of God to us all.
He wants to bless us all. If God wants to bless us it leads to a question – Why does He want to bless us? He wants to bless us not just to make our lives comfortable and prosperous, but for our lives to become channels of His blessings to others. For instance, God comforts us to comfort others! God helps us to help others! God gives us to give to others!
Let’s see three categories of people who were blessed to be a blessing:
- Abraham!
God chose and blessed Abraham to be a blessing! When God blessed Abraham, it was so that the world would see God in him. You can tap into the Abrahamic blessing through Jesus Christ. The Bible says, “That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”
Galatians 3:14
Today, Abraham has become a blessing to many families and nations of the world. Jesus as a seed of Abraham is a blessing to me and my family! What about you? - Israel!
“… the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.” Deuteronomy 7:6
God chose and blessed Israel to become a special people unto Himself and to be above all other people. God blessed them so that they may become an example or a light to the Gentiles. The Bible says, “I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles.”
Isaiah 42:6
Who are the Gentiles? Gentiles are the people who are not Jewish. Out of several peoples in the world, God chose the Jewish people to become His special people to show forth His glory among the nations of the world. They are chosen and blessed by God so that they could shine God’s light on unbelieving nations. Today, with all the persecutions that the Jews faced all over the world, they remain a veritable template of a blessed people. A visit to Israel would validate or buttress my assertion! - Christians!
“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him…”
1 Peter 2:9
As Christians, God chose us to show forth His praise! Jesus Christ chose us to follow Him not just to improve our lives but to improve the lives of others. We are designed and fabricated as salt and light to our world. Do you see yourself as salt or light to your world? Do you know why God is blessing you financially? Until you truly know the purpose of your material or financial prosperity, you will continue to abuse it. Do you know the type of people we call “money miss road” in Nigeria? They are people who lavish money with reckless abandon. They spend their money on frivolous things! They never consider adding value to lives. They never bother themselves about feeding the hungry or clothing the naked! They only bother about themselves or about satisfying their whims and caprices! If you are truly born again, then God designed you to be different! He blessed you to bother about people! Your wealth is for the good of others, not just for yourself alone!
I decree and declare that you will be greatly blessed so that you may become a channel of blessing to your world in Jesus’ mighty name!
Yours sincerely,
Joe Jesimiel Ogbe
