“For Mordecai the Jew was next unto king Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews, and accepted of the multitude of his brethren, seeking the wealth of his people, and speaking peace to all his seed.”
Esther 10:3
The Mordecai order of greatness is about God advancing an individual from a low ebb of life to a high pedestal of prominence and relevance. The rise of Mordecai to distinction and eminence in a foreign land shows that God has the power and capacity to make any of us great, not minding our background or country of abode. To be made an important or distinguished person is not a big deal with God! But will He find in us the right qualities suitable for greatness? Are we willing and prepared to follow the due process? Mordecai did not just become eminent or great in a jiffy! He was at a time a gatekeeper. Wow, a gatekeeper, for goodness sake, that’s a menial job, you would say. Your greatness in the nearest future may be hidden in your current menial job. Don’t despise the days of small things or beginnings. As you are aspiring to be prominent or great in life, try to humble yourself to serve others. Jesus said, “… but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister.”
Rare qualities of Mordecai:
- Quality of saving the life of someone
Mordecai sowed a good seed by revealing the plot of Bigthan and Teresh who wanted to kill the king. His noble act or action saved the life of the king. When his own life was at stake, the king could not sleep until he was rewarded for saving the life of the king. Whatever you sow you will reap! - Quality of Optimism
Optimism is hopefulness and confidence about the future or the success of a given project. Mordecai was highly optimistic about Esther’s chances of winning the beauty pageant. He was always checking on her to know how she was faring. He was also optimistic that Esther was going to be used as an instrument to deliver the Jews from imminent destruction. The quality of optimism, as against pessimism, is needed by anyone who truly wants to be great in life. - Quality of true leadership
Mordecai was a true leader, as he worked for the good of his people and spoke up for the welfare of all the Jews. His greatest concern was to see how he would deliver his people from annihilation. Are you a true leader?
Are you bothered about the welfare needs or well-being of people around you? I do believe that God must have chosen Mordecai for greatness because of his sterling qualities.
I decree and declare that God may empower you with grace and wisdom to cultivate godly qualities. I decree that as you display these qualities, your greatness will become a practical reality in Jesus’ name!
Yours sincerely,
Joe Jesimiel Ogbe
