“And Joshua answered them, If thou be a great people, then get thee up to the wood country, and cut down for thyself there in the land of the Perizzites and the giants, if mount Ephraim is too narrow for thee.”
Joshua 17:15
In our world today, irresponsible people are not in short supply! But responsible people are! Like the house of Joseph, so many people want enlargement but are not prepared to accept responsibility. Joshua, the servant of the Lord was telling the house of Joseph, Ephraim and Manasseh, in the passage under review to accept responsibility for their enlargement. Becoming a responsible person is about knowing what to do and doing it. For the children of Joseph, they must go up to the mountain or hill country to clear it and possess it. They must also drive out the Canaanites, “even though they have iron chariots and though they are strong.”
Let’s consider 3 qualities of responsible people:
- Engaging Knowledge
“The labour of the foolish wearieth every one of them, because he knoweth not how to go to the city.”
Ecclesiastes 10:15
There is no way you can be a responsible person without utilizing the power of knowledge. It is critically important that you know what to do or what to succeed at. Do you know that fools are irresponsible people? They always fail to accept responsibility most times because they do not know where to go or what to do. Seek knowledge! Don’t be a fool! - Embracing instructions
“Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.”
Proverbs 4:13
Responsible people are people who take fast hold of instructions. You are irresponsible if you denigrate or reject instructions! Having superiors that give you instructions is one of the critical values of life. Fools or irresponsible folks don’t like people giving them instructions, hence they are stranded in the journey of life. - Taking action
“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
James 1:22
Responsible people are people of action! Until you do or take action, you are not qualified to be called a responsible person. Irresponsible people do not bother about taking steps or action. They are not doers! You become a responsible person if you take action or do what is right at the right time and in the right place! Prompt action is key! For instance, if you are instructed to do something by God or man, go ahead and do it promptly and dedicatedly. If you are instructed to enlarge your tent or business, go ahead and do it. For it is in your doing or obedience that you become a responsible person.
I decree and declare that you will become a responsible person forthwith in Jesus mighty name.
Yours sincerely,
Joe Jesimiel Ogbe
