“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For everyone that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth, and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”
Matthew 7:7-8
Many of us are extremely shy to ask for things from God and man.
Beloved, there is power in asking! There is profit in asking! In the passage under review, we are enjoined to engage the power of asking. For it is when we ask that we receive! And if we don’t ask, we should not expect to receive! The tragedy is that many of us don’t know how to ask. Some ask but fail to receive because they ask amiss. The Bible says, “Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.”
James 4:3
You ask amiss when you ask for the wrong things or when you’re not qualified for what you are asking for. You ask amiss when you only want to use it for your selfish pleasure. Power of asking commands results when we ask according to His will. The Bible says, “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.”
1 John 5:14-15
What is asking? Asking is about making a request. For instance, if your child requests bread, do you turn him down? If he asks for fish, do you scare him with a live snake on his plate? Never! You wouldn’t think of such a thing. Our heavenly Father will give us good things if we ask Him in faith!
Let’s consider 3 important things to ask for:
- Forgiveness
“So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.”
Genesis 50:17
Joseph’s brothers did not find it difficult to engage the power of asking! We too must not delay or fail to ask God or man to forgive us when we offend or do wrong. We must not be shy to plead for God’s or man’s forgiveness! - Favour
“I intreated thy favour with my whole heart: be merciful unto me according to thy word.”
Psalm 119:58
David, a man after God’s heart knew how to engage the power of asking! He asked for a favour from the Lord and he was not disappointed. Favour from God and man is critical to our existence. As such, we must learn to ask for favour consistently. - Rain
“Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; so the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.”
Zechariah 10:1
Asking for rain is about requesting the move of the Spirit. Do we need the showers of His Blessings? Yes of course! We must ask God for the move of His Spirit in our lives, families and businesses always.
I decree and declare that you will receive answers even as you ask God or man for things in Jesus’ mighty name!
Yours sincerely,
