“Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:”
James 5:14
What is sickness?
Sickness is the state of being ill and unhealthy. Sickness is a robber of strength and productivity. When one is sick, one cannot be productive. There is no profit or benefit for being sick at all! Sickness does not pay, hence our resolute determination to fight against every form of sickness.
The Bible says, “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;” (Psalm 103:2-3)
One of the greatest of the Lord’s benefits is that He “healeth all thy diseases” God has put in place His mechanism to deal with sickness. Apostle James was writing to Christian believers in the passage under review, and he was asking them if any of them were sick. The question suggests that sickness was not a regular feature in the church. Are you a servant of God? Then you are entitled to divine healing. You can’t serve God and not enjoy the healing! As He has promised to take away sickness from your midst. The Bible says, “And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.” (Exodus 23:25)
What to do when you are sick:
1. Believe God as your healer!
“… for I am the LORD that healeth thee.”
Exodus 15:26
God revealed Himself to His people as “Jehovah-Rapha” — “the Lord who heals you.” Healing is not just something that God “does.” Healing is part of God’s very nature. God was, is, and will continue to be a Healer. Remember always that you serve a healing God and that He is ever willing to heal you. God is for you, not against you, in the matter of healing. God’s heart or desire towards you is health. “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” (3 John 1:2)
2. Call on church leaders to pray!
Church elders or leaders have the mandate to pray for and anoint you so that your healing can be established. The prayer of faith shall save you, and the Lord shall raise you; and if you have committed any sin, that sin shall be forgiven you.
3. Self Ministration
You can minister to yourself!
You can serve yourself communion!
You can anoint yourself! All you need is faith. It shall be unto you according to your faith. You can also pray for yourself!
Does God hear an individual’s prayer for healing today? Yes! Of course!
King David understood the concept of “praying for yourself”  He prayed for healing and the Lord healed him.“O LORD my God, I called to you for help and you healed me” (Psalm 30:2).
Are you sick in your body?
I decree your healing right now!
I pray that you will no longer be plagued with sickness in Jesus’ mighty name!
Yours sincerely,
Joe Jesimiel Ogbe
