“That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.”
(Matthew 6:4)
The truth is that our Heavenly Father is not a taskmaster. He loves to reward us for all our labour or services which we render to Him from a pure motive, not a selfish motive. Do you know that God rewards us when we serve Him? He does appreciate our services especially those rendered from a pure heart. But these days, how many of us do sincerely serve Him in secret? Are we not joining the ranks of unbelievers to announce or trumpet our deeds? We want men to respect and honour us. We want them to give us accolades, and if they don’t we get offended. The truth is that God is never pleased with such attitudes and actions. It’s only what we do in secret that touches the heart of our Father in heaven.
Let’s consider three things we must do in secret to enjoy open rewards:

  1. Giving
“That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.” (Matthew 6:4)
When we are doing our charitable giving we must do it anonymously. We don’t have to call for a press conference!
  2. Praying
“But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.”
    (Matthew 6:6)
Some Christians love praying in the open like the Pharisees. They don’t have a private prayer life. We must pray in our closets to enjoy open rewards.
  3. Fasting
“That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.” (Matthew 6:18)
Fasting is a spiritual exercise. It is about reducing or eliminating our intake of food or pleasurable things for some time to pray. During fasting, we must not allow our countenance to show that we are fasting. We must not tell the whole world that we are fasting! The exercise should be a secret deal between us and God. Do you want an open reward? Serve God in secret!
I decree and declare that you will procure your open rewards from God in Jesus’ mighty name!
    Yours Sincerely,
