“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:13-14
Apostle Paul, in this passage under review, knew that he had not achieved or arrived in terms of ministry results or accomplishments. Moving forward for him would require his forgetting the past and focusing on his future goals and objectives. And one of his key goals was pressing on to reach the end of the race and to receive the heavenly prize in Christ Jesus.
Apostle Paul knew he had not obtained it! He knew he was not there yet. He was not content to stay where he was in his spiritual growth. Do you know the danger of being satisfied with your current level or status in life? It is the danger of blindness and complacency! You are blind to seeing your need for growth or more results. It is the danger of being complacent about making attempts toward your goals. I want you to understand that you cannot press toward the Mark except you let go of your past, be it success or failure. Also, you cannot press toward the Mark except if you are disenchanted with your current state or status.
Let’s consider 3 factors that will enhance your pressing forward:

  1. Focus
“The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye is single, thy whole body shall be full of light.” Matthew 6:22
You can easily press toward the Mark if you are focused on one single purpose. The phrase “This one thing I do” shows a man that is given to “One thing agenda or purpose” Apostle Paul was a focused man! No wonder, he was able to command outstanding results in ministry. Do you want to achieve results? Be focused! It is the singularly focused people who succeed in life.
  2. Determination
“For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.”
    1 Corinthians 2:2
It takes determination to press! It takes determination not to give up, no matter the challenge or encumbrance.
Do you know what it means to “press”? It means you are exerting force or strenuous effort. It means you are giving your best effort. Be determined to press forward!
  3. Faith
“Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.”
    Matthew 9:29
In life, it is always “according to your faith” to get or achieve anything worthwhile. For instance, healing is achieved by faith! Salvation is experienced by faith. Pressing toward the Mark is also a function of your faith. It is faith in the future realities, a better future that makes people press forward in life. Resolve right now to always work, move or press forward by faith! Faith pays!
I decree and declare that you will be empowered by God to keep pressing until you achieve your goals in Jesus’ mighty name.
    Yours sincerely,
