“Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”
Psalm 37:4
What is desire? Desire is a strong feeling of wanting to have something or wishing for something to happen. I categorize desires under two major headings such as godly and ungodly, or good and evil. For instance, any desire that seeks to hurt or harm others is ungodly and evil. While any desire that promotes the good of others is godly and good. Check your heart! Is your desire good or evil? Wishing that evil befall someone is an evil desire no matter the issue at stake. If you are a child of God, then your desires must be godly and good! But if you are a child of the devil, then your desires will always be evil and wicked! Any desire that does not honour God is devilish. Period!
Do you have a burning desire?
What do you want out of life?
Do you want to achieve success? Let your desire be strong enough to fuel or enable you to succeed.
Do you desire a better job? Yes, you can have it! Do you desire a better relationship? Yes, you can. But be sure that your belief or faith is in proper alignment! For instance, you can’t have a desire to be married and entertain negative thinking that getting married these days is difficult. If you have a belief or mindset that is in conflict with what you desire then you’re defeating yourself even before you start. Don’t forget, that all desires lay bare before God. May your desires be acceptable to God in Jesus’ mighty name!
Now let’s consider three veritable desires that are acceptable to God:
- His word
“As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:”
1 Peter 2:2
God wants us to crave for the sincere milk of the word so that we may grow unto maturity. It is acceptable to God when we strongly desire His Word. We bring pleasure to God’s heart when we delight ourselves in His word, the Bible. He wants us to read, study and meditate on His word day and night. - His Gifts
“Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.”
1 Corinthians 14:1
God is the Source and Custodian of all good and perfect gifts. And as a loving Father, He is ever prepared and willing to give us precious gifts, particularly spiritual gifts, if we dare desire and ask for them. - His Work
“This is a true saying if a man desires the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.”
1 Timothy 3:1
Do you desire to work in His church? It is a godly desire to seek or aspire for any office in the church to serve His interest. Do you desire to work for Him in your office or marketplace? Working for Him in this context is about you seeking to bring glory and praise to Him through your godly work ethic.
I decree and declare that your desires will be strong enough to achieve outstanding and glorious results in Jesus’ mighty name!
Yours sincerely,
Joe Jesimiel Ogbe
