“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”
Psalms 90:12
Why are we enjoined in the passage under review to count or number our days? To place value on our existence. As we number our days or celebrate birthdays we see life from a better perspective. We become wise as we see life differently. We see life as a privilege, not a right. We see the awesome Blessings of God in our lives and we are provoked to offer Him special Thanksgiving! Knowing that God has been there for us from conception to birth, and all through the stages or phases of our lives, should provoke greater Thanksgiving. God ensures our safety and preservation at no cost.
Our attitude during birthdays should not be that of merrymaking but that of acknowledging what the Creator has done. Thanking Him that He created us to serve a purpose in this world. Every time we have our birthdays, we should see it as an indication that we still have work to do for God and Humanity.
As for me, I see my birthday today as an indication that God has not finished with me yet and that I still have more opportunities open to me. I number my days by reflecting on the journey so far and amending my ways to become a better ME! I deliberately evaluate my present circumstances and make plans for my future. Birthday is my time to dream dreams and work assiduously to achieve fresh goals and aspirations.
No matter how things went yesterday or last year, I trust God for the strength and capacity to try again.
To have lived to see my 61st birthday is a profound statement of God’s protection and preservation. As such, it is not my achievement but HIS! He gave me a breath of life free of charge! And as David prayed in Psalm 71:18, I also pray to be more relevant to our generation and the next. Kindly join me to thank and celebrate God’s faithfulness over these years! God has been so good to me! Hallelujah!
Yours sincerely,
